The optical system consists of a tungsten filament lamp, lenses and apertures to focus the light, a 90° scattered light detector, a forward scattered light detector, a backscattered light detector and a transmitted light detector.

The instrument can measure turbidity up to 40 NTU using the 90° scattered light detector, and up to 4,000 NTU using all detectors (ratio measurement).

When ratio measurement is enabled, the instrument's microprocessor performs a mathematical calculation to determine the ratio between the signals from the different detectors.

This feature offers several advantages: excellent linearity, high calibration stability and the ability to measure turbidity even in the presence of color.
